This misconception is widely held among New Age rapid cyclers. There is no evidence that the brain is more insightful or productive while producing alpha waves. If you want to learn something, you might want your brain to be producing beta waves, but you are not likely to learn much unless you are engaging in a mental activity a bit more profound than being stimulated by light flashes and sound bits.
